Three short films are ready to be exhibited at Creatives Now on Saturday 28 June, and down in London at Somerset House in July, as part of the National Saturday Club’s annual Summer Show

A group of eager film-makers have been busy storyboarding, directing, acting and editing three short films over the last 7 months.

In November, Creatives Now sent a call out to the youth of Bolton for a new National Saturday Film Club

The project promised an exciting 25-week course in film-making, where the group of young people would be working alongside industry professionals to create high-quality films and gain hands-on experience with industry-standard technology.

The 25 weeks have been split into three main areas of the film-making process.

First, the group of young people attended sessions at Title Productions, a video production company based in Bolton, to learn the basics of film-making.

They learnt about the variety of shots available, and often used in films, as well as the art of storyboarding and getting their creative visions across.

At the end of this phase, the group then pitched their ideas in a professional manner to Sitcom Studios, a film company based in Bolton.

After which, the next phase of filmmaking began.

The group moved their sessions over to Sitcom Studios to learn some basics of working together as a film crew, with a director, camera operator, boom operator and actors.

After some trial and error, the group moved on to planning the filming days, and with locations ready, they set off to begin filming their first short film.

Filming in the backrooms of the Market Place in Bolton, and in the town centre opened the group to the realities faced by film crews in public spaces.

They had to work around employees, fight the ever-changing natural lighting and attempt to film some very camera-shy pigeons.

But they prevailed and moved back over to Title Productions, onto the final phase of their film-making project, editing.

The group edited their short films, fuelled by their eagerness to see the magic happen.

And on Saturday 21st June, the group officially finished tweaking their short films, just in time to be exhibited at Creatives Now next week.

On Saturday 28th June, the three short films will be shown as part of the ‘Belonging is a social construct’ exhibition preview at Creatives Now.

Everyone is invited to attend, with guest speakers and work from over 20 local artists.

The three short films will then move to London in July to be shown at the National Saturday Club’s annual Summer Show at Somerset House
